The Camaleonda sofa is a unique design piece that represents an Italian icon. The Camaleonda was first designed in 1970 by the magnificent Italian designer Mario Bellini, who created one of the first truly modular sofas, evolving into contemporary living rooms with a wonderfully soft wave.
By hooking and unhooking seats, backs and armrests, you can enjoy the luxury of changing your mind as often as you like, moving and redesigning the space.
The Camaleonda sofa by Mario Bellini is composed of 7 modular pieces, with the addition of two black glass resin containers, very useful for creating the desired composition, which under the base carry the original C&B production brand. The seats and backs are emphasized by a punched effect, which gives a unique and fascinating feature. The feet are made of black plastic and iron, to give more stability to the seat.
The armchairs and pouf of the Camaleonda sofa by Mario Bellini are totally made of a soft brown and pink velvet, an original fabric of the time.
The Camaleonda sofa by Mario Bellini is in good and original vintage condition, scratches consistent with use and time. The sofa is customizable in any fabric and color.
Literature:
Renowned Italian architect and designer Mario Bellini has been one of the most influential figures on the design scene since the 1960s. His work ranges from architecture and urban planning to industrial and furniture design.
Mario Bellini was born in Milan in 1935, where he graduated in architecture from the Politecnico in 1959. Shortly afterwards he became head of design at La Rinascente, where he remained until 1963, when Olivetti hired him as a design consultant. That same year he founded the architecture and design firm Studio Bellini in Milan, with his partner Marco Romano.
Although Mario Bellini's designs are less revolutionary and iconic than those of many of his postmodern contemporaries, they are certainly not lacking in innovation, and are characterized by original and elegant forms, and technically complicated and refined. Since the 1980s Mario Bellini has dedicated himself almost exclusively to architecture. From 1985 to 1991 Mario Bellini worked as an editor for the famous Italian design magazine Domus. In 1987 MoMA dedicated its first retrospective to him, honoring his life and career by acquiring twenty-five of the designer's pieces as part of its permanent collection. In addition to being the subject of two other major exhibitions, Bellini also curates countless design and architecture events, both in Italy and abroad.
The number of awards and honors Mario Bellini has received is very high; to date he has won the Compasso d'Oro eight times, the Medaglia d'Oro (2004) - for his contribution to world design and architecture - the Ambrogino d'Oro al merito civile (2011), and many others.
